Performances

I am now playing regularly at gigs and weekly jams around the Valley. It is a lot of fun to be meeting new people and playing both Old Time and Celtic music.  (Above is a recent picture of a performance for a City of Ottawa’s Canada 150 event. And below are performances at the Ottawa Valley Country Music Heart Jam in Carleton Place – a fundraiser for Ottawa Heart Institute – and Almonte’s infamous Puppets Up! festival. Photo further below is me on The Valley Stage at the 2014 Renfrew Fall Fair.)

Past Performances of 2013

Almost every week through last summer and early fall I played with friends Saturday mornings at the Almonte Farmers Market. I also got out to play at weekly jam sessions in Carp and at Almonte’s Naismith Pub.

One of the highlights of this past summer was when I performed at Puppets Up!, a big event hosted in my home town of Almonte. Here is a list of performances and contests I played in through the summer and fall of 2013. (Photo: On stage at the 2013 Pembroke Fiddle Music Contest.)

  • May 25 — The Fitzgerald Shindig, Rockway Community Centre (Niagara), opened for and played encores with the Fitzgerald family.
  • June 15 — Save Our River Benefit Concert, Almonte Old Town Hall, with Nathan Sloniowski and Terry Tufts
  • June 30 – July 4 Leahy Music Camp, Lakefield, with a host of talented fiddlers including Natalie MacMaster and Calvin Vollrath
  • July 26 – 28 — Bobcaygeon Fiddle Music Contest
  • August 10 – 11 — Puppets Up!, Almonte’s International Puppets Festival
  • August 18 – 22 — Grand Masters Fiddle Camp (Manotick) in lessons with the amazing Calvin Vollrath
  • August 30 – September 1 — Pembroke Fiddle Music Contest
  • October 5 — 98.7 Valley Heritage Radio, performance with the Clyne Brothers on a live, one-hour “Country Kitchen Parties” show
  • October 26 — Country Gospel Bluegrass Night (Perth)
  • December 6 — House Party Fiddle Jam, hosted a fiddle jam to follow Almonte’s Light Up the Night celebrations

My Early Years in Niagara

IMG_3841Back in Niagara, I often fiddled at local fairs and events across the Region with the Niagara Olde Tyme Fiddle Club. I also performed with a band of very talented musicians and we jokingly called that band Alexander’s Olde Tyme Band. We enjoyed playing for many seniors’ retirement and nursing homes. I always had fun with my friends in the Niagara fiddle community. (Photo: I am playing a special Christmas concert in a Niagara Falls senior residence with Mike Mattie and Cassandra Swan.)
