A Summer Update

denis_dumont Although I am relaxing from the daily music classes at Canterbury this summer, I have not taken any time off playing my fiddle! I’ve continued to do many exciting things in the musical world.

I have had the opportunity of busking in Ottawa with my friend Marley Mullan. That has been fun – and I quickly learned that busking in Ottawa provides you with much greater rewards than busking in Almonte! We made a lot of money and I’m happy I had the experience of going to busk in a city during lunch hour.

Recently I spent an evening jamming with Denis Dumont from Regina Saskatchewan – brother of my parents’ friends (above photo). He was a very good acoustic guitarist and played many styles of music from traditional fiddle to country music, etc. I had fun playing Old Time and Metis music with him!

Later this summer I’m going to be performing at the Puppets Up! Festival in Almonte with my Mom! I have also been asked to play a set with the Fiddleheads, which is a group of fiddlers that jam on Tuesday nights at the Legion in Barrhaven. On Labour Day Holiday Weekend, I will also be competing in the Pembroke Fiddle and Step Dance contest and am quite looking forward to playing there.

I’m excited about the various musical events still to happen this summer!
