This past weekend I went to the Ontario Open Fiddle and Step Dance Contest held in Bobcaygeon. It was a really fun weekend with great jams, performances, and activities.
There was tough competition at this event. I was happy to get fourth place in my category of 12-and-under (they recognize four people). For my performance I played: Gramma’s Waltz, Gray’s Second Change Jig, and The Shelburne Reel. They are very hard songs that I have been practicing for many months.
Aside from the contest, I liked playing at some great jamming sessions with many talented musicians. I enjoyed seeing and playing with my friends from the Niagara fiddle scene, Cassandra Swan and John Hartman. It was all a lot of fun and I look forward to my next fiddle contest – in Pembroke on the Labour Day weekend!
